Miami Beach Introduces Free Water Taxis and Shuttles for Art Week to Alleviate Traffic

To assist residents and tourists in navigating the anticipated heavy traffic, the city of Miami Beach has announced new transportation choices as Art Week draws near. Free water taxis and special shuttle buses will be offered for the first time, making it easier to get from Miami Beach to downtown Miami and to other art events throughout the city.

The new services were emphasized by Miami Beach City Manager Eric T. Carpenter. “We’re taking creative steps to ease the surge of traffic expected during one of our busiest weeks of the year,” he told the governor of Miami Beach. During peak hours, the water taxi service will run every 15 minutes along Biscayne Bay, stopping at the Venetian Marina & Yacht Club in Miami and Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in Miami Beach.

Art lovers will have access to a variety of complimentary shuttles in addition to the water taxis. Participants will be transported to and from the key Art Week venues and waterfront taxi stations by the Outer Loop and Inner Loop Art Week shuttles. In the meanwhile, a Water Taxi Connector shuttle will operate between the Miami Beach Convention Center, the hub of Art Week events, and Maurice Gibb Memorial Park.

To make accessibility even easier, Park and Ride stations have been put up in strategic locations. Participants can be comfortably transported from a few parking garages directly to the events using shuttle and water taxi services. To handle the increased volume of passengers, the Miami Beach Trolley service will also operate more often. According to Miami Beach Governor, for individuals who would rather be more active, the city has miles of bike-friendly infrastructure and Citi Bike stations spread out over the city, which accommodate both traditional and electric-assisted bicycles.

During the busy art-filled week, the city is working hard to ease traffic patterns. In order to guarantee a constant flow of traffic and fast updates using contemporary communication means like digital signs and traffic text alerts, traffic monitors will extend their hours and watch thoroughfares from dawn until late evening. They will also coordinate with law enforcement. Given the continuous roadwork around Biscayne Boulevard, it is anticipated that these efforts would lessen the strain on the city’s roads. According to the same press release, the temporary modifications to drawbridge operations during the festival should also aid in controlling traffic flow along the Venetian Causeway, a crucial route connecting Miami Beach and the city.
