In order to support the community’s efforts to advocate for women’s issues, the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women is seeking additional members to join its ranks. According to a Miami-Dade County official release, the Miami-Dade Commission has been one of Florida’s first women’s commissioners since 1971. It is affiliated with a number of other statewide organizations and is a member of the National Association of commissioners for Women, which has its headquarters in Washington, DC.

There are currently vacancies in County Commission Districts 10, 11, and 12, and residents of Miami-Dade County who are prepared to submit to a background investigation and fingerprints are specifically requested. The commission stated that although it is not a requirement, it is a recommended qualification for candidates to reside in the areas they want to represent.

The commission stresses the significance of a proven dedication to women’s advocacy when seeking new board members. The Miami-Dade County website states that “Applicants should have a proven track record of advocating for women, along with knowledge and interest in policy and organizing for issues affecting women.” Additionally, during the selection process, candidates with specialized knowledge in communications, policy, or research should receive extra attention.

Resumes can be sent to [email protected] by anyone who wants to support the mission of the Commission for Women. According to the announcement page for the event, the commission guarantees that applications that fulfill the requirements will be examined by Commissioners on a rolling basis.
