During this conservation week, residents and interested individuals can follow and explore the pine rockland ecosystem through various social media platforms. The community is invited to engage with content highlighting the beauty and ecological significance of these habitats on Facebook and Instagram. According to the

, a collection of photos and videos will be shared to provide educational insight into one of South Florida’s rarest natural environments.

Pine Rocklands, valued for its rarity and environmental significance, are home to over 450 native plant species. This ecosystem, found only in South Florida, is the exclusive habitat for certain plant species that do not exist elsewhere. It also provides important ecological services, such as water filtration, air purification, wildlife refuge, and opportunities for public interaction with nature.

Conservation efforts for these ecosystems are managed by the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources’ Division of Environmental Resources Management (RER-DERM). The EEL Program, under RER-DERM, oversees more than 28,000 acres of native plant communities, including over 1,500 acres of pine rocklands. As part of the EEL Program, volunteer workdays are organized to assist in the conservation of these habitats. Interested individuals can participate in these activities and contribute to the preservation efforts.
