A Miami-Dade woman is charged with several offenses after police claim she unintentionally shot her teenage daughter after a furious altercation outside a McDonald’s. According to CBS News Miami, Melissa Valbrum, 32, was taken into custody and charged with battery, culpable carelessness causing personal injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to CBS News Miami, the incident happened on Friday night after Valbrum got into a fight with a Lyft driver and passengers over a misinterpreted gesture meant to indicate the arrival of their ride. During the altercation, Valbrum allegedly threatened to “shoot and kill” them while pointing the gun at them. According to the arrest document obtained by Local 10 News, a revolver allegedly dropped from Valbrum’s waistband, causing an unintentional discharge that resulted in the shooting of Valbrum’s daughter in the shoulder as the Lyft drove away.

According to NBC Miami, the 15-year-old was taken in stable condition to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. According to police-reviewed surveillance and phone video footage, Valbrum is seen brandishing a gun while making violent gestures toward the Lyft’s back passenger window, where the altercation occurred.

According to Miami-Dade County inmate records, Valbrum was charged by Miami-Dade correctional deputies with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of battery, and one count of culpable negligence causing personal injury after being arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
