HOMESTEAD, Fla.(DDN) – A Miami man is charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a 47-year-old in the neck at a Homestead plasma donation facility last week, according to an arrest report released Tuesday.
Patrick McKinnon, 39, was arrested on Monday, barely six days after Homestead police were called to CSL Plasma at 512 W. Mowry Drive in response to the stabbing, according to the report.
According to investigators, the event occurred on January 21, while the victim was sitting in the clinic’s lobby.
According to the police report, the 47-year-old victim stated that McKinnon approached him and said, “Told you I was going to stab you,” before stabbing him with a knife.
Moments afterward, authorities said the victim jumped up and tried to escape being stabbed again.
Clinic security intervened and broke up the fight, but both the victim and McKinnon escaped before police arrived, according to authorities.
Shortly later, Homestead Hospital workers informed authorities of a stabbing victim in the emergency room. A be-on-the-lookout alert was issued, and McKinnon was apprehended just after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
According to the arrest report, the victim viewed the lineup and recognized McKinnon as the individual who stabbed him. According to detectives, the victim scrawled, “Slash my neck over ID,” at the bottom of the lineup. Police said CCTV video from the clinic confirmed the victim’s account.
Authorities stated that he had known McKinnon for roughly two years.
McKinnon was read his Miranda rights and gave a statement that was redacted from the publicly released report.
The victim’s injuries and condition were not immediately released, and the motivation is unknown at this time.
McKinnon was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Tuesday, with his bond indicated as “to be set.”
