(CBS DETROIT)AAA said Monday that gas prices in Michigan had decreased 12 cents since last week, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to AAA, drivers in Michigan are paying an average of $3.01 per gallon for regular unleaded, which is 18 cents less than it was a year ago and 17 cents less than it was this time last month.

Michigan residents will spend an average of $45, which is $13 less than the price they were paying in August of 2023 for a 15-gallon tank of petrol.

The average gas price in Metro Detroit is $3.06, which is roughly 7 cents cheaper than it was last week and 17 cents less than it was at this time last year.

Nearly 2.6 million people in Michigan are expected to travel 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving, according to AAA. That represents 65,000 more travelers than in 2023 and an all-time high for Thanksgiving travel.
