Michigan Man Facing Murder Charge Tied to Indiana Freeway Shooting Incident

Authorities say they are looking into a guy who is accused of shooting his neighbor dead in Canton Township last month and who may have also been involved in another shooting in Indiana.

“I can confirm that we are aware of this non-fatal freeway shooting in Indiana and we’re assisting the Indiana State Police with their investigation,” a Canton Police Department representative said in a statement.

A murder accusation against Devereaux Johnson is pending in relation to the passing of 35-year-old Nathan Morris. Johnson is accused by the police of shooting Morris on August 11 during a fight.

Neighbors of Johnson expressed their lack of astonishment over the potential for a second shooting.

“Scary, yes. Not necessarily surprising,” Steve Glaspie stated. “I live close enough to him to where I would hear him inside of his garage and talking really loud. He was really up and down with how he was feeling, and I had multiple run-ins with him.”

According to Glaspie, Johnson had run-ins with a number of other neighbors over the years. They do wish more had been done to stop the deadly shooting that occurred inside their community, even though they are not shocked.

“It’s easy to say that after the fact in hindsight, just be a little more aware,” Glaspie stated. “If a tragedy can be prevented then I’m all for it.”
