Michigan Pastor Charged with Invasion of Privacy for Secret Camera in Church Bathroom

After confessing to police that he had concealed a camera in the church’s gender-neutral restroom, the former pastor of a Livingston County church faces charges.

Leaders of Brighton’s 2|42 Community Church contacted the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office on Friday following the discovery of a video recording device in a church restroom by church employees.

The worship pastor director of the church, Will Johnson, told church officials he had hidden a camera in the restroom with the intention of filming people without their knowledge. There was a firing from the church position.

Johnson, a five-year church employee, was taken into custody at the Livingston County Jail after being apprehended by the sheriff’s office at his Howell home.

Every electronic device that was taken from his house will be examined by forensics.

Johnson confessed during a detective interrogation that he had been secretly recording people using a church restroom for the previous two years, focusing on known users.

The restroom was not normally open to the public, according to the sheriff’s office, and was only used by volunteers and church employees. There aren’t any concealed cameras in the church, according to the detectives.

In a statement posted on social media Sunday, church leaders said, “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this crime and violation of our community. The protection, safety, and privacy of every person who enters our church is our priority. We are fully cooperating with the sheriff’s office as this is an ongoing investigation.”
