Michigan State Women’s Basketball Earns NCAA Tournament Bid, Faces No. 10 Harvard

DETROIT, Mich. (DDN) – After an impressive 21-9 season and a fifth-place finish in the Big Ten, the Michigan State women’s basketball team has secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans will take on No. 10 Harvard in the first round, with the game set to be played at NC State.

Harvard, boasting a 24-4 record, recently clinched the Ivy League conference tournament title. Meanwhile, Michigan State fell to Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.

The Spartans are coached by Robyn Fralick, now in her second year at MSU, and are led by standout players Grace VanSlooten, Julia Ayrault, and Theryn Hallock. Harvard is coached by Carrie Moore and features star scorer Harmoni Turner, who averaged 22.5 points per game this season and scored 24 points in the Ivy League tournament final against Columbia.

Michigan basketball began the day on a positive note, winning the Big Ten Conference tournament championship. However, their enthusiasm was dashed when the NCAA Tournament bracket was released. The Wolverines earned a No. 5 seed, while Wisconsin, whom they upset in the championship game, received a No. 3 seed, causing resentment among fans on social media.

Michigan finished the season with a 25-9 record, including two victories against Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the Badgers, with a 26-9 record, were given a higher seed. The Wolverines will face No. 12 UC San Diego (30-4) in the opening round, while Wisconsin will face No. 14 Montana (25-9).
