Michigan woman charged with embezzling over $200K from elderly man’s estate

(CBS DETROIT) An Oakland County woman is charged with robbing a vulnerable adult of almost $200,000.

The charges against Tracie Green, 64, of South Lyon, include one count of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $100,000 or more and two counts of embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $50,000 or more but less than $100,000.

According to investigators, as the victim started to exhibit signs of cognitive deterioration, Green, a family friend, volunteered to assist with his care. In 2018 and 2020, Green allegedly tried to alter the man’s investment accounts and add herself to his condo property in South Lyon. Green was eligible to receive half of the over $400,000 total value of those accounts upon his death as a result of those modifications. In 2021, the victim passed away.

In a news release, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated, “It’s both perplexing and disgusting that individuals, particularly those who are trusted by the victims and their families, exploit vulnerable members of our community for their own selfish benefit.” “Our seniors deserve protection from such predatory behavior, and my department remains committed to holding accountable those who prey on vulnerable adults.”

Green received a bail of $50,000. On December 18, she is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference.
