A North Texas middle school teacher was arrested this week for sexual crimes involving one of her former students, Lone Star State police say.
Angela Barnes, 45, currently stands accused of one count each of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student, according to a press release issued by the Keller Police Department on Monday.
The defendant is a teacher at Carroll Middle School in Southlake, a tony and affluent suburb of nearby Fort Worth and farther-flung Dallas. The city is predominantly in Tarrant County, but small portions extend into Denton County to the north. Keller is a similarly high-income suburb — located immediately adjacent to the west.
Barnes was arrested on Monday, without incident, after an investigation that began last month, police said. Investigators acted on allegations the educator was “having an inappropriate relationship with an underage boy who was a former student” last summer break, police said.
“Detectives began investigating the case immediately and discovered that Barnes was engaged in a sexual relationship with an underage boy throughout the months of June and July 2024 and that the relationship had since ended,” according to the police department.
Details about the allegations are currently scarce.

School officials, however, were fast to act on the news.
In a statement provided to Dallas-based Fox affiliate KDFW, the Carroll Independent School District offered a lengthy summary of their response.
The statement reads:
Police say there are not believed to be any additional victims but have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information.

The defendant was booked into the Keller Regional Jail at the time of her arrest.
It is unclear if Barnes is presently in custody due to a technology issue with the lockup’s public-facing website.
Law&Crime reached out to the Keller Police Department for additional details on this story, but no response was immediately forthcoming at the time of publication.
