Minnesota’s New DBE Entrepreneurs Boosted by MnDOT Orientation and Resources

Owners of newly minted Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) gathered on October 29, 2024, to dive into a day of learning and connectivity at an orientation aimed to educate them on competing for projects and nurturing their burgeoning ventures. This in-person event, according to the

Minnesota Department of Transportation bulletin

, provided a platform for these entrepreneurs to converse with representatives from various organizations, including the Metropolitan Airports Commission and the

Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

The presenters, from offices such as

MnDOT’s

Civil Rights and Consultant Services, shared insights on navigating the complexities of state contracts and procurement opportunities, designed to uplift the historically underrepresented. They did not shy to also offer straight tips for success, such as “knowing prevailing wages before bidding or proposing” and ensuring the accuracy of your NAICS codes in the DBE directory, as highlighted in the

bulletin.

Highlighted during the orientation was the Pathways to Success program, an initiative

MnDOT

runs in collaboration with DRB Consulting, to extend free business training and mentoring to certified DBEs. This support is crucial for those looking to not just stay afloat but to thrive in competitive state contract bidding waters.
