According to Lone Star State law enforcement, a Texas lady was recently arrested for purposefully leaving her 16-month-old child unaccompanied in order to fly out of town to see a man she met on a dating app.

The Killeen Police Department has charged 25-year-old Reese Louise Myers with one count of abandoning or endangering a child.

The alleged incident began in the middle of the previous summer, and early this month, the defendant was apprehended on a fugitive warrant close to the small city of Barstow in the Southern California Inland Empire region. This week, she recently returned to Texas.

A representative for the Killeen authorities Department informed Law&Crime that late on the morning of July 28, authorities were called to an apartment on West Hallmark Avenue in Killeen, a sizable city about 70 miles north of Austin, to inquire about the welfare of a child.

According to a statement from the department, officers were informed that a child was loitering close to a shattered window and that an aggressive dog was attempting to harm the child. When the authorities arrived, they saw a child sticking out of the window that had been fixed with cardboard and plexiglass sheets. It wasn’t broken.

According to police, the boy was discovered inside the apartment by himself, only dressed in a T-shirt. Additionally, the toddler reportedly had obvious symptoms of diaper rash and excrement on their skin.

According to the police department’s account of the search, officers went into the flat and found the toddler alone, save for two dogs. When officers got in touch with the child’s mother, she told them she was in San Antonio right now and had been there since the previous day.

Killeen is around 160 kilometers to the southwest of San Antonio.

After being transported to a neighboring hospital, the youngster was turned over to the state’s youngster Protective Services.

According to an arrest document acquired by Waco-based Fox station KWKT, Myers allegedly told police she had gone to the Alamo City to see a man she met on Hinge when they called her.

After meeting a babysitter on Facebook, the mother allegedly told police that she had left her child with her. In order to learn more about the scenario, investigators followed up with the suspected babysitter.

The police narrative goes on to say that when officers contacted the babysitter, she revealed that she had previously watched the suspect in December of last year and had not spoken to her since. When she showed her Facebook communications to the officers, none of them were from after December 2023.

The house itself, according to law authorities, was designed and arranged to give the impression that Myers meant to leave her son alone.

Precautions were reportedly clear and included securing the door’s deadbolt, covering the kitchen area with a baby gate, and locking and closing all other windows save the one that the youngster was spotted hanging out of, which appeared to have been makeshift.

According to the police department, officers instructed the mother to go back to Killeen.

Allegedly, such request was not fulfilled. On November 5, Myers was taken into custody by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
