Montgomery ISD voters made a pivotal decision on Election Day, passing Prop A, the district’s first-ever tax ratification election, that will bring $5.5 million annually to its Maintenance & Operations budget. This measure aims to rectify the looming $4.3 million deficit the district faced for the 2024-25 school year. Securing a narrow margin of 50.50 percent in favor, the proposition will raise the M&O rate by $.0425, as Click2Houston reported.
The vote outcome shows a closely divided community, with 15,627 in favor and 15,318 opposed to the VATRE. Stephanie Wells, Communications Coordinator for Montgomery ISD, shared the unofficial results with Community Impact. The results will be finalized at a board meeting on November 19, where votes will be certified.
Dr. Mark Ruffin, Superintendent of Montgomery ISD, expressed appreciation for the community’s support of Prop A. He emphasized that the funding would help recruit and retain talented staff, uphold high educational standards, and strengthen student programs and school security.
According to Community Impact, Board President Matt Fuller said, “This is a huge win for our students and staff and consistent with our community’s continued support of our schools. We have a long history of investing in students and schools to ensure that Montgomery ISD remains a premier district.”
