Morganton Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Meth Trafficking and Illegal Machinegun Possession

For cocaine trafficking and unlawful handgun possession, 27-year-old Scottie Alan Keith Frady of Morganton, North Carolina, was sentenced to 17 years in prison. U.S. Attorney Dena J. King for the Western District of North Carolina made the statement. Frady was found guilty of possessing many firearms, including a machinegun, and over two kilograms of methamphetamine.

On May 17, 2023, the case started when investigators carried out an arrest warrant for Frady, who had allegedly escaped supervision. When police officers found Frady in a Morganton home, they found cash, guns, and drugs during their search. According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice, there was also evidence linking Frady to another home in Rutherford County where an AR-style weapon and machinegun were discovered. According to the charges, Frady entered a guilty plea on December 20, 2023.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) worked together to successfully apprehend Frady and subsequently sentence him. The inquiry was greatly aided by social media and text communications, which demonstrated that Frady was in possession of several of the confiscated weapons.

Now in federal prison, Frady is awaiting his transfer to a federal facility of his choosing. The case is a component of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a national program designed to lower gun violence and violent crime. The Department’s approach places a strong emphasis on demonstrable results for safer neighborhoods, targeted enforcement, preventive initiatives, and community trust. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Hess was the case’s primary prosecutor, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
