Motor City business booming alongside Lions’ rise

(CBS DETROIT) On Sunday, Lions supporters were out in force in Detroit.

Early today, thousands of people began pregaming in the hopes that the Lions will defeat the Buffalo Bills.

A lot of individuals decided to watch the action at sports bars rather than at home.

Even the rain and dreary gray sky couldn’t deter Lions supporters from attending the game at Harry’s Bar & Grill. Hours before kickoff, the bar was crowded with customers.

“When I looked at the calendar this year, I saw that the Bills game was scheduled on Sunday at 4 p.m., and we knew that this was going to happen. “That will be the one,” Harry’s Detroit Bar & Grill General Manager Hugh Leonard declared.

For over 20 years, this Motor City mainstay has been a part of the neighborhood.

“People are here even when they’re not. This place gets crowded. And it’s sort of weird because I’ve been coming here for so long. Just coming here to watch a game and be able to sit at the bar like I used to is my plan. And I thought, “Oh no, I have to arrive really early.” A Lions supporter named Michelle Demeau stated.

The audiences at Harry’s have only increased in size as a result of the team’s recent hot streak.

“Even with all these new fans, the energy itself is just, yeah, electric and Harry’s staff in general is amazing,” Lions supporter Adria Willer stated.

Despite the fact that game day is generally full, the general manager claims to have seen a significant shift in sales in recent years.

As a result, I would say that your average Sunday is 40 to 50 percent greater than what we were doing the year before. Leonard remarked, “I would say probably 80% up on two years ago.”

Local businesses continue to aspire for this trend.

“Compared to three years ago, two years ago, last year, and this year, everything is completely different. It’s simply getting busier and busier every year. Leonard stated, “The fan base has truly turned the corner and is more excited than they were at the beginning of this year’s first week.”

Football fans are eager to see what happens next as the playoffs approach, and they will be watching from Harry’s.
