DDN – The Killeen Police Department is investigating an accident that killed one individual Saturday afternoon just before 2 p.m.
According to a press statement from the police department, officers responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of State Highway 195 and Creek Place Drive in South Killeen around 1:55 p.m. When cops arrived, they found that a motorcycle had collided with a pickup vehicle at the junction.
According to the report, the preliminary investigation revealed that a black Honda motorcycle was driving south on SH 195. Witnesses said that the motorcycle was moving at high speeds and weaving between traffic.
A red Toyota pickup truck going eastward on Creek Place Drive, preparing to turn northbound onto SH 195, began to enter the median when the motorcyclist collided with the truck’s driver side.
At 2:16 p.m., Justice of the Peace Nicola James pronounced the motorcycle rider, a 20-year-old Fort Cavazos soldier, dead on the scene. His identity has been withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
An autopsy was scheduled at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas.
The motorcyclist wore a helmet.
The driver of the pickup truck reported no injuries.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit is still investigating this death, and there is no other information at this time.
