CHAMPAIGN (DDN) – This weekend, three persons were admitted to regional hospitals following separate early-morning shootings.
At 1:19 a.m. on Saturday, police working a downtown assignment responded to gunfire near Main and Fremont streets.
In a vehicle, they discovered a 42-year-old Rantoul lady with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. She is still in stable condition at an area hospital.
According to police, a male pulled out a weapon and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
At 2:45 a.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old man from Champaign and an 18-year-old female victim from Dewey arrived in a car at a fire station in the 700 block of West Bradley Avenue, both suffering possibly life-threatening gunshot wounds to the chest.
The patients were transferred to a nearby hospital, where they are still in bad condition.
According to police, the victims were heading westbound in the 3900 block of Colleen Drive when an unknown individual approached them and opened fire.
