Muskogee Resident Sentenced to 30 Months for Federal Firearm Violation

A Muskogee man has been handed a 30-month prison sentence for a federal firearms violation, courtroom officials confirmed. Raheem Travon Walker, 22, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, a report from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma stated.

Walker entered a guilty plea on January 3 for the charges stemming from an October 2023 incident. The authorities swooped in amid a disturbance report at a Muskogee residence and discovered Walker with a 9mm Luger caliber semi-automatic pistol along with 12 rounds of compatible ammunition. Given his prior conviction for a crime that permits imprisonment for over a year, Walker’s possession of the gun and bullets was illegal. According to a

statement from the Department of Justice

, this arrest aligns with the overarching aims of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed to reduce violent crime and gun violence.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the United States Marshals Service and the Muskogee Police Department. Project Safe Neighborhoods, under which Walker’s case falls, is part of a broader strategy initiated in May 2021 by the department. Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White oversaw the proceedings, resulting in Walker’s sentence. In following with the legal narrative, Walker is to be held by the U.S. Marshal until he can be transported to a designated federal penitentiary. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Edith Singer and Lewis Reagan represented the federal government in these proceedings, according to the

same press release.
