, the firefighters removed the homeowner from the structure and provided emergency medical care before transport to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, where, regrettably, the resident did not survive. The team also rescued a dog from the residence, which was treated on the spot and is currently receiving further care at Offshore Animal Hospital.
The fire’s cause is currently being investigated by a collective effort involving the Department of Fire Services, the Massachusetts State Police, the

, and the Nantucket Police Department. In the efforts to tackle the fire, one firefighter was also reported to have sustained minor injuries and has since received treatment.
