Naples Suspect Charged with Human Trafficking and Illicit Profits from Prostitution

Joshua Joseph Notarianni, 28, of Naples, was taken into custody in Miami yesterday on suspicion of trafficking in persons and receiving money from prostitution. According to CBS Miami, police were first looking into the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl from Brevard County when they noticed security footage of a woman who looked like the missing youngster with Notarianni. Notarianni had an outstanding felony warrant from a 2018 attempted robbery in Collier County, according to a follow-up records check.

Two women, ages 20 and 23, were observed leaving the unit associated with Notarianni during the procedure. At first, Notarianni refused to come out. The women confirmed that Notarianni was armed, and police reported hearing what they believed to be a firearm being prepared inside the house. In a statement received by Local 10 News, Miami police officer Michael Vega stated, “Officers were engaged in a standoff with Notarianni for several hours before a patrol supervisor was able to talk him into leaving the gun on the kitchen counter and coming outside.”

According to the arrest report, the two ladies were forced into prostitution and denied the money earned from it. Additionally, Notarianni held the victims’ identifying documents in a closed chamber that they could not access. According to the same Local 10 News statement, he is charged with several offenses, including two counts of human trafficking, two counts of receiving financial assistance from prostitution, and one crime of possessing a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.

Any other victims or others with information about Notarianni are being urged to come forward by the Miami Police Department. A spokesperson said, “The Miami Police Department remains dedicated to protecting all from crime and will work tirelessly to identify and bring offenders to justice,” in a statement that CBS Miami also carried. The police action and inquiry also enlisted the State Attorney’s Office Human Trafficking Task Force.
