Nashville Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Unlawful Ammunition Possession After Market Standoff

A Nashville man, identified as 37-year-old Demetris Octavius Parrish, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after an altercation that escalated into an armed confrontation at a local market, leading to his arrest for unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, as reported by the Acting United States Attorney Thomas J. Jaworski for the Middle District of Tennessee.

On the morning of February 26, 2021, Parrish visited the R&B Market on Clarksville Pike; a place he frequented regularly, where upon being denied a return of goods by the manager an argument ensued and Parrish left the premises threatening to return with lethal intentions, statements that were later followed by him returning indeed, this time brandishing a 9mm pistol and discharging it multiple times, although no one was injured since the manager managed to escape to the store’s back.

The incident, including Parrish’s threat and the gunfire, was recorded by surveillance cameras, which were key to the investigation by Metro Nashville police. Officers arrived soon after and found three 9mm shell casings at the scene. The

emphasized that prosecuting Parrish shows their commitment to protecting the community from repeat offenders who use guns in violent acts.

With a prior rap sheet that includes at least six felonies such as aggravated assault and aggravated robbery, Parrish’s history of crime was a significant factor in the sentencing, “The defendant was previously convicted of at least six felony offenses, including aggravated assault and aggravated robbery,” said Jaworski in a statement that expressed a communal relief in the wake of the sentencing, “Thanks to the work by our prosecutors and law enforcement partners, the community will finally be safe from the defendant’s crimes for an extended period.” The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicholas J. Goldin and Rascoe Dean leading the prosecution.
