Nevada Driver Who Hit and Killed 39 Sheep Near Lovelock Receiving Death Threats, Sheriff Says

DDN – According to Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen, the woman who hit and slaughtered scores of sheep in Lovelock on Tuesday has gotten death threats since the story spread on social media.

The accident occurred on Upper Valley Road, a state route in Lovelock, shortly before 7:45 a.m. on February 18. The farming town lies 90 miles east of Reno.

The vehicle collided with a flock of hundreds of sheep on the road, killing 39 of them, Allen said.

Sheep and cattle grazing on public land is frequent in and around Lovelock, particularly during the winter, he said.

The speed limit in the region is 55 mph. Allen stated that speed, impairment, or using a cell phone did not appear to be factors, but the motorist might still be fined for not paying attention.

The Pershing County District Attorney’s Office will receive the investigation’s findings and decide whether or not to press charges.

Allen feels people are exaggerating the story and that sheep are hit frequently in rural Nevada, but he admits it is usually only a handful at a time.
