Nevada Transportation Department Seeks Public Input on HOV Lanes Through New Survey

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking community feedback through a new survey aimed at evaluating the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in Southern Nevada. Public input could be pivotal in shaping the HOV system’s functionality and its impact on travel and safety within the state. NDOT spokesperson Kelsey McFarland explained, “This survey marks an important step in understanding how Nevadans use and benefit from the HOV lanes,” emphasizing the agency’s commitment to evolving the HOV infrastructure to accommodate the diverse transportation needs of the population, according to a news release by

Residents in the area, particularly those who frequently use Interstate 15 (I-15) and Interstate 11 (I-11)/US 95, are urged to visit dot.nv.gov/HOVStudy to participate in the brief survey, which will remain open until December 13, 2024. The survey asks about travel habits, peak times, and seeks recommendations for improvements as NDOT works to optimize the HOV lanes. These lanes are currently in effect on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., based on a decision last year by the Nevada Transportation Board of Directors to adjust the HOV operating hours.

Furthermore, the board has directed NDOT to move forward with a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) study to determine the long-range role of HOV lanes in the region. The survey is seen as a crucial component of this process, designed to ascertain if the operational hours align with actual community necessity and traffic expectations. For additional details on state highways, public inquiries can be directed to (775) 888-7000 or via the online resources at nvroads.com, where up-to-date highway conditions are available or through calling 511 before heading out on the road; social media updates can also be found by following @NevadaDOTVegas on X.
