New Braunfels Launches Construction on Key Infrastructure Projects with River Safety and Dam Improvement at the Forefront

Two significant infrastructure projects that have been approved by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation (NBEDC) are about to undergo renovations in New Braunfels. The Corporation that manages the city’s economic development funding is focusing on improving public infrastructure, transportation, and quality of life in the city. After receiving approvals earlier this year, the development got underway in May after receiving the go-ahead from City Council.

Construction workers will begin work on the Last Public Exit Improvement Project on December 12. Weather allowing, the about $1.2 million project is expected to take three months to complete. To increase the safety of Comal River users, Austin Filter Systems will replace the current stairs and create an underwater landing, according to a statement from the City of New Braunfels. River traffic will be diverted to the Garden Street Bridge during construction, while the Last Public Exit will be blocked.

The Landa Lake Dam Improvement Project, which is scheduled to start in January, is another project on the agenda. As required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Dam Safety Program, the project, which has a $1 million budget, will concentrate on improving the integrity of the dam. The task of rebuilding the water-controlling sluice gates from Landa Lake into the Spring Fed Pool and strengthening the dam with concrete and huge stones has been given to Dalrymple Gravel and Contracting Company. Depending on outside factors, the project is also anticipated to take three months to complete. There should be minimal disruption to the public, but throughout the construction phase, adjustments will be made to tee box #2 at the Landa Park Golf Course.
