New Franklin Resident Wounded by Stray Bullet Inside Home, Police Investigate Accidental Shooting

The New Franklin Police Department has reported a seemingly unintentional discharge that has left the neighborhood uneasy and searching for answers. A resident of New Franklin is recuperating after being struck by a stray bullet that entered his home and breached the walls.

Authorities told FOX8 that the guy was inside his home on Fairview Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday when he was shot in the leg by an unidentified shooter who was coming from the west.In the meantime, Cleveland added in a follow-up to the incident, the New Franklin Police searched the area around Center and Grove Roads and spoke with locals in the hopes that someone might provide some insight into the cause of this senseless violence.

“These incidents are 100% avoidable if proper safety measures are taken when shooting, calling for an awareness of surroundings and proper backstop use when shooting,” police said in a social media statement obtained by Akron Beacon Journal. The police have classified the shooting as likely “accidental,” as per FOX8, with the working assumption that someone in the area engaged in the act of shooting without malicious intent. However, the lack of a known perpetrator or a determined shooting location amplifies the arbitrariness of the incident.

Even though the man’s wounds have not been deemed life-threatening, the shooting highlights the unsettling reality of situations that can abruptly upend the routine and leave both physical and psychic scars. The New Franklin Police Department is still seeking information on the incident, and anyone with information is encouraged to call them at 330-882-3281.
