New Information Released in Fatal Train-car Collision in Security-widefield That Killed 26-year-old Woman

(DDN) – An automobile collided with a train in Security-Widefield on Monday afternoon, killing one person, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

According to Trooper Sherri Mendez, officers rushed Monday at 3:29 p.m. to Main Street Crossing, located at Highway 85 and Main Street interchange, to find a deceased 26-year-old female from Colorado Springs who had been ejected from her Mitsubishi Outlander.

After an investigation, troopers discovered that the car was going westbound on Main Street approaching an active railroad crossing and did not stop when all other traffic was stopped at the flashing downed arms sign.

The CSP stated Tuesday that the vehicle raced through the arms and collided with the northbound train cars. The car then rotated, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. According to images from the site, the impact appeared to have pushed the car to the northeast side of Main Street.

According to the state police, no one else was in the vehicle or wounded in the incident.

The Security Fire Department stated that the initial responders did not need to extract anyone from the vehicle.

Bystanders report that the train did not stop after the crash.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning, and the inquiry was still underway.
