New Orleans Police Investigate Unrelated Shootings at Second Line Parade, 1 Person of Interest Detained

Two different shootings that happened along a second line parade route last Sunday are being looked into by the New Orleans Police Department. The first gunshot occurred in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue at approximately 3:38 p.m., and the second occurred on the Almonaster Bridge approximately 45 minutes later. According to FOX 8 Live, authorities have concluded that there is no connection between the shootings.

Two victims, Rasean Carter, 21, and Malachi Jackson, 19, were slain in a recent shooting that left 13 others injured. According to WDSU, the New Orleans Police have carried out eight search warrants and arrested one person of interest, but their apprehension has nothing to do with the shootings. Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the individual is still crucial to the inquiry.

Two gunshots in New Orleans are linked to the person of interest. Ten people were hurt in the first event on Almonaster Avenue, and two people were killed and one injured in the second one at Almonaster and Florida Avenue. The search warrants are being managed by Jennifer Dupree, a captain in the 5th District of the NOPD. Superintendent Kirkpatrick said during a press conference, “This police department is at a national high in terms of our capacity to discover the criminals and bring them to justice. “There is a very, very high chance that you will be caught,” he said, urging anyone who had images or recordings from the second line parade to come forward. According to WGNO, four guns have been found by the police during their investigation.
