New Traffic Signal on Indiantown Road, Jupiter Causes Major Delays; FDOT Promises Adjustments

A recent move by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to activate a new traffic light on Indiantown Road at the northbound exit of Interstate 95, has caused significant upheaval for Jupiter commuters. As traffic thickened yesterday morning, local residents found themselves entrenched in extended delays, as reported by

. The traffic signal is a segment of a $17.98-million improvement plan, including a wider eastbound Indiantown Road and a stretched I-95 entrance ramp—complemented by added bike lanes.

However, this implementation has disrupted the rhythm of Jupiter’s daily commute. Andrew Pignato’s two-mile journey to the gym evolved into a near-hour ordeal, with frustrations mounting in the standstill traffic. As Pignato told

, “It was bumper to bumper, honks, a lot of people trying to make U-turns when they could but what sucks is they really couldn’t go anywhere.”

Town Councilman Cameron May publicly voiced concerns stating that the activation of the signal should have coincided with the completion of all construction and the opening of all traffic lanes. “I am aware of the issues with the newly activated traffic light at Indiantown road and I-95. In my opinion this light should have not been activated until the construction is complete and all lanes of traffic are open. I’m not sure of the logic behind this from FDOT and I am working to find out if there’s a solution. Obviously this issue is mainly affecting those residents traveling from the farms and that is not what we wanted. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of FDOT as this is their project, but we have communicated our concerns and hope to have a resolution. I’ll update this when I hear back. Thank you all,” May posted on Facebook, an update obtained by

. FDOT has acknowledged the quandary, assuring adjustments to the signal timings to ease the subsequent morning commutes.

A silver lining seemed to appear for parents like Amanda Johansson, who encountered lateness while dropping children off at school amid the traffic chaos. “Everybody was late, everybody,” Johansson shared, as school administrators spared tardiness citations, understanding the gravity of the snarl. This tidbit was shared in a conversation with

Joel Lopez.

As for a resolution, May has indicated optimism that FDOT will resolve the issues quickly, stating, “They will be on-site the next few days manually activating that light, to figure out the timing and what they need to do, how long the light needs to stay green and red in each direction.” The current construction project aims to add two more eastbound through lanes and a third northbound off-ramp right lane turn lane, which Palm Beach County’s Traffic Division suggested will significantly improve traffic conditions once completed next summer, as per
