BOSTON – The WBZ-TV weather team has issued a NEXT Weather Alert for Monday, cautioning Massachusetts residents to prepare for periods of heavy rain and gusty winds, particularly during the morning hours.
Monday’s Forecast: Morning Downpours and Gusty Winds
The most significant rainfall is expected during the first half of Monday, from approximately 5 a.m. to noon. Moderate to heavy rain will move west to east, creating challenging travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute. Strong winds, gusting up to 30-35 mph—and higher across southeastern areas, Cape Cod, and the Islands—will accompany the downpours.
Temperatures will be unseasonably mild, reaching the upper 40s to low 50s, ensuring an all-rain event.
Rainfall totals may exceed half an inch in a short time frame, increasing the risk of hazardous road conditions and limited visibility. Though the rain will clear by the afternoon, gusty winds are expected to persist.
New Year’s Eve Weather: A Mixed Bag
New Year’s Eve is shaping up to be a tale of two halves. Most of Tuesday will feature dry and mild conditions, with occasional sunshine breaking through. However, as the evening progresses and the countdown to 2025 begins, rain chances will increase again.
While conditions for heading out to celebrate appear dry, a fresh round of showers may arrive around midnight or shortly after, ushering in a soggy start to the new year. If you’re planning to be out late, an umbrella might be a wise accessory.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The rain is expected to taper off after New Year’s Day, giving way to quieter but much cooler conditions as the first weekend of 2025 approaches.
