Dry weather returns to the forecast for the start of next week on Monday, with generally cloudy skies to begin the day until some breaches in the clouds provide some brightness.

High temperatures remained in the mid-40s by Monday afternoon. Winds will be brisk throughout the day, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 MPH for the majority of the day, making temperatures seem like they are in the 20s and 30s.

Our next system is expected to arrive on Tuesday, with rain showers giving way to snow showers as cooler air comes in. The high temperature is expected to reach the upper 30s by Tuesday afternoon. Any snow that does accumulate will be mostly on grassy or higher areas, and it should be limited to dusting or coating.

Once that low-pressure system departs to the east, a northwesterly flow will enter the region to begin the new year. This will bring cooler air into the region, with the possibility of snow showers and/or a few flurries from Wednesday to Friday. High temperatures will reach the 30s on Wednesday and Thursday before dropping to the upper 20s by Friday.

We will keep the cloud cover in the forecast for next weekend. High temperatures remain below freezing as we approach the first weekend of the new year. High temperatures will reach the upper 20s on Saturday.

Then we’re keeping an eye on the end of the weekend and early next week. The Climate Prediction Center has placed the region at risk of significantly below-average temperatures as well as the possibility of substantial snowfall by the end of the weekend and early next week.

According to data as of Monday morning, a snow storm might hit the region before the end of the weekend. I added snow to the forecast late Sunday, and we will continue to “fine tune” that end of the forecast as we move through the week.
