Nolensville Voters Overwhelmingly Approve Wine Sales in Grocery Stores

In a decisive show of local democracy, the small town of Nolensville in Williamson County has embraced the sale of wine in retail food stores. According to WSMV, approximately 90% of Nolensville voters supported the referendum, with a total of 7,424 votes cast in favor.

Despite strong support, 917 residents voted against the measure. Ten years ago, state lawmakers gave cities the power to make their own decisions on issues like this. After gathering signatures and getting approval from local leaders, the referendum was added to the ballot, allowing citizens to decide their town’s alcohol policies.

The push for this change comes as businesses like Publix and Kroger plan to open in Nolensville within the next two years. “The people in Nolensville have made it clear just by putting it on the ballot, that they would like to buy wine when they buy their food, and we’re very confident that they’re going to make that decision tonight,” said Rob Ikard from the TN Grocers & Convenience Store Association in a statement obtained by News Channel 5.

The elections in Williamson County saw a busy turnout, with 34,713 residents voting in the general election, according to The Tennessean. Over half of the votes came from early and mail-in ballots, with 20,194 residents using these methods. However, the total doesn’t include results from precincts 1-4, as those precincts had low voter turnout, the election commission said.
