A guy from North Lawndale has been accused in relation to his ex-girlfriend’s murderous gunshot and the fire of her West Englewood residence in May of last year. Following the death of 32-year-old Racquel Adams, who was discovered in her home after police discovered the fire at 12:40 a.m., 37-year-old Joshua Mims is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
When authorities entered the flaming house, they discovered Adams partially burned and in a pool of blood, having been shot in the back of the head. According to Cook County prosecutors, surveillance tape showed Mr. Mims leaving Adams’ home on the 6400 block of South Damen Avenue late at night and coming back around midnight, only to leave again just before the fire was discovered. Adams was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was declared dead. The homicide charge was supported by the discovery of a shell casing at the site.
The Chicago Fire Department determined that the fire was started on purpose after discovering open flame ignition in four different locations throughout the property, as prosecutors went on to explain. After working together, Chicago police officers and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force were able to capture Mims, who was arrested close to South Kedzie Avenue.

Adams, who had just obtained her GED and had aspirations of opening a beauty business in Little Village, was on the verge of personal success in addition to the great loss experienced by her family. The police have not revealed the reason for Mims’ alleged behavior. The accused was scheduled to appear in court to have his status as a detainee decided.
