Oakland County Woman Strikes It Rich with $2 Million Lottery Ticket on a Whim in Warren

A Michigan woman won a $2 million lottery prize as a result of an unforeseen incident at a convenience store in Warren. The 64-year-old Oakland County resident, who has opted to stay anonymous, won a sizable sum of money after purchasing a Strike It Rich quick game ticket from the Michigan Lottery. The woman had no intention of purchasing a lottery ticket at first, but the customer in front of her, who purchased multiple tickets, encouraged her to do so, according to The Detroit News.

When the woman realized the value of her prize, she “immediately locked the doors and signed the ticket,” she said in a release to CBS News Detroit after scratching off the ticket while sitting in her car. She decided against an annuity in favor of a lump sum payment of almost $1.3 million before taxes, which she intends to spend to pay off her car, renovate her house, and donate to charitable causes. She thinks that the financial status of her family will be significantly impacted by these acts.

In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, the Michigan Lottery acknowledged that there are still two $2 million unclaimed jackpots in the $20 quick game Strike It Rich. With a significant amount of prize money still up for grabs, the game has amassed over $14 million in player winnings since its October introduction.

“This winner’s story is proof that you never know when you might be a lucky winner of a huge Lottery prize,” said Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli in a Detroit News release, highlighting the win’s serendipitous timing. Other lottery players have now noticed that the winning ticket was bought at Meaad Enterprises LLC, which is situated at 1950 East 12 Mile Road in Warren.
