According to the Berkeley Police Department, a 34-year-old Oakland man has been arrested in relation to a shooting that occurred in downtown Berkeley last month. Around 2:31 p.m. on October 24, complaints to law enforcement regarding gunfire near Henry Street and Berkeley Way sparked the incident. Authorities served a warrant at an Oakland home Wednesday morning, leading to the suspect’s capture. The suspect was identified after evidence connected to the shooting was discovered at the scene, according to a report from the Berkeley Police Department.
The Oakland Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service helped make the arrest. The apprehended guy is suspected of a number of crimes, including shooting at an inhabited residence, careless firearm discharge, and assault with a handgun. According to Berkeleyside, he was detained at Santa Rita Jail after being arrested and had $260,000 set as bail. In a connected investigation, police found and confiscated a dozen firearms and ammo in addition to the charges he was facing.
After the shootout that resulted in his identification, the suspect was already in the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Per Berkeleyside, Officer Byron White, a spokesman for the Berkeley Police Department, said that shortly after the shooting, “a person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound arrived at Highland Hospital for treatment.” This was the 34-year-old suspect who is currently being held. In addition to looking for more possible shooters who might have been involved, Berkeley police are still looking into the incident.
The man will be arraigned at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland on Monday at 9 a.m., but the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has not yet filed formal charges against him.
