The annual “Turkey Shoot” events are being held by the Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation department, and locals are welcome to take part and demonstrate their shooting prowess. According to the City of Oklahoma, winners will have the opportunity to get a complimentary turkey for Thanksgiving.
Starting at 6 p.m. on November 25, free throw tournaments will be held at six local community centers. The Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center on Frederick Douglas Avenue, the Macklanburg Community Center on NW 117th Street, and other locations throughout the city will host the festivities. Simply come up, check in, and compete in one of four age groups, which range from 6–8 years old to 18 and older, without having to pre-register. According to the City of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation is in charge of organizing the event.
Before Thanksgiving, the city’s “Turkey Shoot” event provides a fun and welcoming opportunity for neighbors to gather together. The Pete White Health & Wellness Center and the Will Rogers Senior Center, two senior centers, are hosting cornhole competitions as part of the event, which starts at 1 p.m. Residents 50 years of age and over are eligible to play; all they need to do is sign up before the games begin. People of all ages can participate in the event, which combines cornhole and traditional basketball, and compete for a turkey reward, according to the City of Oklahoma.
