Oklahoma Group Proposes Open Primary Amendment by 2026

Independents can vote in the Democratic primary in some areas, but they are usually not allowed to vote in the Republican primary. State Question 835 supporters, gathered at the Oklahoma History Center close to the Capitol, support a primary system in which all voters, irrespective of party affiliation, can cast ballots for the same slate of candidates.

According to State Question 835, Oklahoma would have an open primary system in which the top two candidates—regardless of their party affiliation—would compete in the general election.
