DDN – A seven-vehicle incident in San Francisco on Sunday night killed one person and left another with life-threatening injuries, according to firefighters.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the report was received at 6:08 p.m. near 6th and Harrison streets.
Police reported that one person and a dog perished on the site. The person’s identification has not yet been disclosed.
According to the San Francisco Fire Department, one victim had life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Six persons were involved in the crash and are likely to survive. They were either brought to the hospital or evaluated on the spot and released.
The incident included at least seven inhabited vehicles, according to firefighters. The incident also affected unoccupied vehicles.
According to a Waymo representative, one of its vehicles was functioning autonomously “when it was struck from behind in a multiple-car collision caused by a vehicle traveling well above the speed limit.”
According to officers, a possible suspect driver is being treated at the hospital and has been detained.
The San Francisco Police Department is in charge of the inquiry, which is looking into whether this crash was linked to a series of hit-and-runs on northbound Interstate 280 shortly before it.
Around 6:09 p.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a four-vehicle hit-and-run incident on I-280 near the 6th Street offramp. According to officers, two people sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.
According to the CHP, the suspect car in the I-280 crash was a black Tesla. It is unclear at this time whether DUI was a factor in the incident.
The fire department anticipates the intersection to be closed throughout the night.
