A wrong-way crash overnight in Galveston killed one person and injured numerous more.
The Galveston Police Department said that the two-vehicle crash occurred on Seawall near 42nd Street around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
According to investigators, one driver was traveling westbound in an eastbound lane without lights when he collided with a vehicle carrying a family of four.
The wrong-way driver perished, and all four family members in the impacted vehicle were transported to the UTMB Galveston emergency department.
Kurt Koopman, Galveston Police Department’s Public Information Officer, stated that two of those transported were in critical condition.
The Galveston County Medical Examiner was dispatched to the location. At this moment, it is unclear whether alcohol played a part in the accident, pending additional inquiry.
Several blocks of Seawall Boulevard were closed overnight Wednesday for the investigation. The roadway has since reopened.
