One Dead, Several Injured After Kia Driver Flees Police and Runs Red Light in Collier County

One person was killed and several others were injured when a vehicle pursuit resulted in a wreck near Vanderbilt Beach Road and Logan Boulevard in Collier County on Monday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved five automobiles. FHP troopers stated they responded around 1:46 p.m. and discovered a “Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) for a 2024 Kia sedan that had fled from Collier County deputies on I-75.

While fleeing FHP, the Kia driver was speeding south on Logan Boulevard. According to FHP, the motorist ran a red light at the junction of Vanderbilt Beach Road and collided with four other vehicles.

According to FHP, the Kia’s driver, Jason Petion, 22, was critically injured and sent to a nearby hospital. According to troopers, he did not have a driver’s license and was wanted for fleeing and evading in Dade County. There were two additional men inside the automobile.

The front seat passenger in the Kia, a 30-year-old Miami guy, was also critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

According to FHP, the Kia’s backseat passenger, a 24-year-old Miami man, died at the hospital after suffering catastrophic injuries.

According to the news statement, the four other vehicles were damaged, and the occupants sustained minor injuries.

Petion was charged with homicide, killing a human being or an unborn child with a car, running or evading police, causing bodily harm or death, and driving without a license.

The FHP said the crash is still being investigated.
