DDN – A 19-year-old man was killed and six others injured in an early Saturday morning crash on State Road 84 in Davie, according to troopers.
A little before 3 a.m., an Audi S5 and a Honda Accord were driving “at an excessive speed” toward University Drive in the left and center westbound lanes of the highway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The Audi was driven by a 21-year-old Plantation guy and carried a 19-year-old Davie man, a 19-year-old Weston man, and a 23-year-old Hallandale Beach man. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Pompano Beach lady drove the Honda, which was carrying a 24-year-old Tamarac male and a 25-year-old Fort Lauderdale guy inside.
According to the announcement, the right side of the Audi collided with the left side of the Honda, causing it to side-swipe.
The collision caused the Audi to veer into the left shoulder and crash into the concrete traffic barrier before it “lost control,” returning to the westbound lanes of the highway and spinning all the way across until it crashed into a guardrail on the right side, entering the grassy shoulder and colliding with a metal fence.
According to the announcement, the Honda came to a controlled halt on the right shoulder.
During the collision, the 19-year-old Davie guy was thrown from the Audi. Davie Fire Rescue pronounced him deceased on the scene. According to the announcement, all of the other people involved were injured; it was unclear whether anyone was hospitalized.
The announcement provided no further information about what caused the disaster. There have been no charges announced.
