One Killed, Several Injured in Wayne County, Indiana Two-car Crash at South US Highway 27 and State Route 122

WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. (DDN) – A two-car crash in Wayne County, Indiana over the weekend killed one person and injured numerous others.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Wayne County Sheriff’s officers were dispatched to a significant crash at the intersection of South US Highway 27 and State Route 122.

According to the sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation revealed that a black Chevrolet was traveling southbound on US Highway 27 at the intersection with State Route 122.

According to the OSP, a red Dodge heading westbound on State Road 122 approached the intersection, failed to stop at the stop sign, and then continued into it.

The sheriff’s office stated that the black Chevrolet collided with the red Dodge on the passenger side, inflicting severe damage to both vehicles before coming to a halt in the field.

The driver of the Chevrolet was seriously injured. A medical chopper transported him from the site to Miami Valley Hospital. His passenger was declared deceased on the scene. She was identified as Nannie Byrd, 60.

The two persons inside the red Dodge were children. Both had minor injuries and were taken to Reid Health for treatment.

This crash is currently under investigation.
