Orange County Eyes Environmental Sustainability with Proposed RNG Plant at FRB Landfill in Irvine

In a move aimed at reshaping waste management in Orange County, Bowerman Power is collaborating with OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) on a venture to establish a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production plant at the Frank R. Bowerman (FRB) Landfill. According to the City of Irvine, the Bowerman Power RNG Plan Project will focus on converting previously flared landfill gases into RNG, thereby supporting both local sustainability goals and statewide programs to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

As detailed in the City of Irvine’s announcement, this project contributes to the state’s mandate to procure RNG derived from methane in organic waste. Expected to avoid the GHG emissions equivalent to 60,196 tons of landfilled waste annually, the power plant will have the capacity to process 6,000 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas (LFG).

Further information about the project, its objectives, and how it ties into the broader strategies for environmental sustainability in Orange County can be seen by visiting the OC Waste & Recycling’s website or arranging a tour of the FRB Landfill for a more tangible understanding of the project’s scope.
