Orange County Man Indicted for Possession of Machine Guns and CSAM; Faces Up to 70 Years in Prison

A 43-year-old man from Orange County may be sentenced up to 70 years in federal prison after being indicted on charges involving the possession of machine guns and a large collection of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), as stated by law enforcement officials Wednesday.

Arthit Tanjapatkul of Santa Ana, who was arrested on October 9, came under scrutiny by federal agents in March 2023 after he illegally sold a military-grade laser that had been stolen, according to a statement obtained by

KTLA

. Possessed by the Santa Ana man, evidence gathered includes almost 1,000 images and videos of CSAM and an array of firearms with a special focus on four machine guns.

The case, which has drawn significant concern from both federal authorities and the community, has revealed an unsettling combination of illegal arms dealing and the exploitation of children. Investigators discovered during their October search last year, as noted in a news release, that Tanjapatkul’s home harbored a veritable arsenal along with a hard drive filled with CSAM, containing distressing content involving minors under the age of 12.

Additional evidence of Tanjapatkul’s illegal activities emerged during a July 2024 search of his storage unit, where agents found 10 disks replete with CSAM and further indication of machine guns possession—painting a bleaker picture of the suspect’s alleged crimes stated on

the U.S. Attorney’s Office website

. Released on a $250,000 bond, Tanjapatkul is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana on Nov. 18.

While each allegation in a complaint or indictment maintains the presumption of innocence for the accused until proven otherwise, the weight of evidence against Tanjapatkul could potentially place him in federal prison for the better part of a lifetime. The FBI continues to investigate this matter as the court date approaches.
