Beginning on New Year’s Eve and continuing through New Year’s Day, travelers in Oregon should be prepared for conditions that are wet and slippery.
Pendleton is forecast to have fog, light rain, and patchy slippery conditions, for example, while the Cascades are anticipated to receive substantial mountain snowfall.
According to the National Weather Service, the possibility of precipitation in Pendleton begins on Tuesday evening, and there is a thirty percent probability of precipitation after four o’clock on Wednesday morning.
Snowfall levels in the mountains are expected to plummet to as low as 2,500 feet by New Year’s Day, even though roads in the city may continue to be manageable and accessible. Delays in travel and roadways that are ice are expected to occur.
With temperatures hitting the high 30s, Pendleton will continue to experience rain on New Year’s Day. There is a possibility that mountain snowfall may produce accumulations of more than one inch in certain regions, which will make roadways such as Interstate 84 and mountain passes hazardous for traffic.
When Wednesday night arrives, it is anticipated that there will be a combination of rain and snow in the lowlands as well as in the higher altitudes. Pendleton is forecast to receive very little to no accumulation of snow, while higher elevations may see inconveniences due to the snowfall. The snowfall might continue into Thursday morning.
