(CBS DETROIT)On Wednesday morning, a house fire claimed the life of a 61-year-old man from Orion Township.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the Orion Township Fire Department arrived on the scene of a fire in the 2400 block of Indianwood Road.

Firefighters were notified that there was a trapped person in the basement of the house. According to the Oakland County Medical Examiner, the guy was taken to a nearby hospital after first responders successfully extricated him from the basement, where he subsequently passed away from smoke inhalation.

Despite being inside the house when the fire started, another person managed to get out unharmed.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
