Orlando Seeks Public Feedback on Three Pulse Memorial Design Proposals

Three suggested designs for the Orlando Pulse memorial are currently awaiting public comment from the Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee, which is made up of survivors, victims’ relatives, and members of the community. According to ClickOrlando, this new committee was established to guarantee the project’s completion after the onePulse Foundation, which was initially entrusted with building the memorial, disbanded and sold the property to the city.

One of the ideas put forth on Thursday is to keep a portion of the nightclub structure inside the memorial, emphasizing the creation of a friendly and safe environment. The designs honor the 49 victims of the 2016 horrific shooting while attempting to offer shade.

WESH reports that Baker Barrios Architects’ Wayne Dunkelberger provided specifics of one concept that included “an elliptical walkway with a fountain in the middle,” a visitors center, and a number of columns that symbolized the 49 deaths. With Jay Hood of Catalyst Design Group stating emotive aim behind columns of light and an illuminated mesh fountain at the site, another option explores converting the nightclub’s shape into an outside pavilion.
