Georgia is renowned for having many of the most eerie locations on the planet. It should come as no surprise that there are so many haunted buildings here because there is so much history at every turn.

Old Candler Hospital Morgue Tunnel, Savannah
The Candler Hospital, which was constructed in Savannah in 1804, was Georgia’s first hospital. The enormous “Candler Oak” that stands on the property is the subject of one of Savannah’s most well-known ghost stories.
It is often referred to as “The Hanging Tree,” and numerous witnesses have claimed to have seen apparitions dangling from its branches by their necks.
The old morgue tunnel that extends from Candler Hospital to Forsyth Park, however, is more haunted than the hanging tree when it comes to Georgia’s most haunted locations.
During the yellow fever outbreaks, this tunnel would have been utilized for the covert transportation, storage, and disposal of bodies. That the tunnel is now thought to be haunted is actually not surprising.
People that have the courage to descend there have returned with a wide range of spooky stories, such as odd light orbs and numerous apparitions that have been seen throughout the tunnel.
The Pirate’s House, Savannah
The Pirate’s House in Savannah is one of Georgia’s most visited haunted houses. Even when it first opened in 1753, this inn had a bad reputation for Shanghaiing gullible sailors.
The men would enter the inn lured by the prospect of a hot dinner, free alcohol, and a place to rest. However, when they passed out, they would be pulled into the basement and into secret passageways that went to the Savannah River.
The following morning, the sailors would awaken to find themselves compelled to serve aboard a ship that was miles away from their homes.
Moans and disembodied voices are reportedly still audible to building visitors from the now-boarded-up tunnel. The upstairs room, which is now a restaurant, has also been the scene of apparition reports.
The Masquerade Nightclub, Atlanta
Originally housing the Dupre Excelsior Mill, which is thought to have been constructed somewhere in the 1880s and closed in 1977, the Masquerade Nightclub is now a well-known live music venue.
Before being converted into the nightclub it is today, it briefly reopened as a pizza.
Due to the numerous ghost stories associated with the establishment, The Masquerade Nightclub has developed a reputation as one of Georgia’s most haunted locations over the years.
The story of a big, towering, black man who is spotted roving the club is among the most popular. According to the staff, he is the ghost who shuts off the music amplifiers on the majority of evenings!
Employees also describe feeling chilly areas throughout the building and hearing ghostly footsteps. Additionally, horrific disembodied screams from a young woman who perished in a nightclub accident are thought to have come from the rear staircase.
There are also rumors that the club is a vampire hunting ground!
Berry College, Mount Berry
Many different types of paranormal activity are said to occur at Berry College. CCC Road is the subject of one of the most well-known tales.
It’s reported that you can count to seven when you cross the bridge in one direction, but only six while you’re returning. No one really understands why, but it’s strange!
Along the route lies an old cemetery where residents say they have heard weird footsteps, disembodied sobbing, and organ music.
A girl was also struck by her boyfriend’s vehicle on the route that connects the old and new parts of campus. The girl is described as appearing as a bright green light when called upon.
Other oddities at Berry College include an unexplained eerie feeling in the tower between the East and West dorms, as well as unusual music, sobbing, and footsteps emanating from the vacant church.
There have also been reports of a man pursuing youngsters near the watermill, but he glares at them before disappearing!
The Marshall House Hotel, Savannah
Located in the center of Savannah’s historic downtown, the Marshall House Hotel is a genuine nineteenth-century establishment. In addition to providing opulent lodging, it is renowned for being among Georgia’s most haunted locations.
Visitors have often described a young man clutching his own severed arm and looking for someone to assist him in reattaching it! There have also been allegations of males wandering the hotel dressed like Civil War soldiers.
Some visitors were shocked to hear that there was no reenactment or other event happening because they thought they were actors!
The structure served as a temporary hospital during the Civil War, caring for hundreds of injured troops, many of whom would have perished there.
The origins of these apparitions can be partially explained by this. It is also typical for hotel guests to awaken with one arm extended, as if a nurse were measuring their pulse!
The hotel’s staff has started keeping a notebook in which they document every occurrence of paranormal activity that has been reported to them because of the high volume of paranormal activity there.
Along with the aforementioned encounters and apparitions, it’s also typical to hear tapping, have taps turn on by themselves, have doorknobs rattle without cause, hear kids playing and running around, and a few more inexplicable things!
