DETRIOT, Mich. (DDN) – Authorities are looking into an incident where a car was discovered wrecked, with an unconscious individual inside, yet no one occupying the driver’s seat on Wednesday in Detroit, according to reports.
Shortly after 12:45 a.m., authorities were alerted to a single-vehicle accident on the eastbound ramp of Interstate 96 leading to Davison, as reported by Michigan State Police on the social media platform X, previously referred to as Twitter.
Authorities responded to a scene where a vehicle was found with the driver’s door ajar and the driver’s seat unoccupied. However, a passenger was discovered unconscious and may have sustained a broken arm, according to police reports.
According to police, the individual was still alive when emergency responders reached the scene, and personnel from the Detroit Fire Department utilized the Jaws of Life to extricate him from the vehicle.
A 41-year-old man who was a passenger has been transported to a nearby hospital, according to Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw.
Authorities suspect that the driver was moving at an excessive speed when the vehicle veered off the road, collided with a concrete barrier, then crossed all lanes and hit another concrete barrier on the opposite side before coming to a halt just before a traffic signal.

Authorities are actively looking into the matter and are working to determine the identity of the driver.
Shaw, in the update on X, urged anyone with details about the driver to reach out to authorities at 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
“Yet another incident attributed to excessive speed and loss of control,” Shaw stated in the post. “This incident was particularly troubling as the reckless driver abandoned the scene, leaving his injured passenger behind.”
