DDN – A female driver was ejected from her vehicle after colliding with a median on Interstate 78, prompting a tractor-trailer driver to also strike the automobile, according to state police.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Nathan Branosky, public relations officer for the Troop M barracks, told lehighvalleylive.com that the collision occurred just before 12:15 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 54.1 in Lower Macungie Township. According to Branosky, the woman attempted to merge onto I-78 east while driving south on Route 309.
She then collided with the center median, ejecting her from the automobile, he added. The automobile came to a stop on the west side of the highway.
Then, a tractor-trailer driver collided with that car in the westbound lanes, resulting in the secondary incident, Branosky explained.
The woman was brought to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township for treatment of her injuries. A condition was not immediately known on Monday morning. The woman was the sole occupant of the automobile. Branosky stated that the rig’s driver was not wounded.
The Lower Macungie Township Fire Department, the South Whitehall Township Fire Department, Cetronia Emergency Medical Services, and personnel from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation also responded.
